In 2021, Congress passed the Infrastructure and Jobs Act--also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This legislation allotted $7.5 billion over five years for the build-out of 500,000 electric vehicle chargers across the nation.

'Build America, Buy America' refers to stipulations in the Infrastructure and Jobs Act that require domestic investment, sourcing, and manufacturing of certain products. This includes electric vehicles chargers. 

In order for EV chargers manufactured in the U.S. to be considered eligible under the Infrastructure and Jobs Act there are several criteria that must be met:

• All manufacturing of iron or steel charger enclosures takes place in the U.S.
• All iron or steel used for charger housings must come from, and be manufactured in, the U.S.
• Final assembly of iron or steel charger enclosures takes place in the U.S.
• By 2024, at least 55% of the cost of all components must be manufactured in the U.S.
